IDF Destroys Hezbollah's Underground Terror Infrastructure in Southern Lebanon
Paratroopers Brigade and Special Units Lead the Charge
The Paratroopers Brigade, alongside the Yahalom Unit and the Northern Command Combat Engineering Unit, under the 98th Division’s command, have successfully destroyed 250 meters of underground terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon. This network of tunnels and bunkers was identified and investigated during recent cross-border operations, coordinated with special units. During the operation, IDF troops uncovered command centers, combat gear, and a large cache of weapons intended for use by Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces in an invasion of Israel. They also discovered living quarters, complete with showers, a kitchen, and food supplies.
Although the underground infrastructure did not extend into Israeli territory, it was sealed by the Northern Command Combat Engineering Unit and the Yahalom Unit in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense's Department of Engineering and Construction.
IDF Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said:
"In the footage seen here, our troops raided a Hezbollah underground command complex, and dismantled it. The troops entered a terror tunnel about 250 meters long, located about 300 meters from the border and not crossing into Israeli territory. As can be seen here, the troops found along the route a kitchenette and rooms enabling extended stays for Hezbollah terrorists underground, terrorist combat packs and weapons of the Radwan Forces ready for attack, command rooms, fresh food, and electrical and communication infrastructure. These compounds were intended to be used by Hezbollah terrorists in an attack on the communities of the Galilee. This tunnel did not cross into our territory, and yesterday we destroyed it."
Meanwhile, the Paratroopers Brigade continues to engage Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon, navigating the region’s complex, mountainous, and densely forested terrain. In a Hezbollah stronghold used to launch attacks on Israeli civilians, the soldiers uncovered hundreds of additional weapons. They have also eliminated dozens of terrorists in close-quarters combat while directing precision aerial strikes. The Paratroopers Brigade uncovered vehicles and weapons prepared for terrorist operations by Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Forces during their operations in southern Lebanon.
The brigade has intensified its efforts in the region, executing targeted raids on Hezbollah's military compounds. In these operations, hundreds of weapons were found hidden within civilian buildings, including a vehicle loaded with arms intended for terrorist attacks by the Radwan Forces.
Among the confiscated weaponry were rocket launchers, mortars, mines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), anti-tank missiles, grenades, and other explosives. All seized materials are set to be transferred to Israeli territory.
The IDF remains active in a town recognized as a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah had been using the area as a base to launch numerous terrorist attacks on northern Israeli communities. The soldiers are engaging Hezbollah militants in close combat and through aerial strikes, neutralizing terrorists in the process.
The 188th Brigade, operating under the 36th Division, has successfully located and dismantled weapons caches, underground infrastructure, and neutralized Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces anti-tank missile squads in southern Lebanon.
In recent days, the brigade identified and dismantled a Hezbollah command center, which had been used to store weapons and coordinate attacks on northern Israeli communities over the past few months.
During one of their targeted raids, the forces uncovered and foiled an ambush set by Hezbollah, along with seizing weapons from a vehicle belonging to the terrorists. They also discovered and destroyed a pit rigged with explosives.
Colonel Or Volozhinsky, commander of the 188th Brigade, stated: "In recent days, we have focused on dismantling infrastructure above and below ground, and we will continue to do so as long as necessary, until we ensure the safe return of residents to the north with full security. Entering the area was emotional. Our soldiers have been waiting a long time for this moment – to fight and significantly damage Hezbollah. The 188th Brigade is in the midst of prolonged combat. Our commanders and soldiers are highly motivated, with extensive operational experience, and are determined to lead the mission to its full completion."
